“Glasgow Granite Masters were recommended to us by both our kitchen supplier and fitter. We visited their showroom and the staff were a pleasure to deal with. I recognised Stuart from the 223 Boys Brigade and whom I taught him the bugle, scary or what and not changed one bit LOL! We attended their wholesaler, selected our own slab and fitted the following week. Very happy and can’t wait to get the kitchen finished. Thank you for the bottle of bubbly xxx.”

Mr & Mrs Miller, Stewarton

“I have nothing but praise for Glasgow Granite Masters who supplied and fitted my new Bluepearl granite worktops and skirting’s in my recently remodeled kitchen diner. The service they provided was courteous and surprisingly quick, (everything was fitted within 5 days).

The granite itself was approximately half the price quoted by competitor companies and of top quality – something verified by its ever growing list of admirers. The fitters were very professional and at the same time, very personable. I have no doubt that I made the right choice in choosing Glasgow Granite Masters to add the finishing touch to our new room. I would happily recommend this service to anyone.”

Grant Mitchell, Alexandria

“Glasgow Granite Masters installed my work tops last year. Service was great and I am delighted with them. Got in touch with them this week and they supplied me with sealant for them. First class service Glasgow Granite Masters. Would not hesitate to use them again and would recommend them to my friends.”

Mrs Linda McLaren

“From Stuart pricing the job, Stewart measuring and templating and then Chris fitting – The job was completed in next to no time! The fitters were outstanding in their professionalism. They were both polite and made a point of introducing themselves at the start. When any problems cropped up they dealt with them in a professional manner.

I would have no hesitation in recommending or using Glasgow Granite Masters in the future.

Thanks again for your help and pushing this through Stuart.”

Andrew Fife, Ayr

“Our kitchen fitter recommended Glasgow Granite Masters to install, fabricate and design our island. View the photographs for yourself.”

Mr & Mrs Brown Kashimier White Worktops

“I found that Glasgow Granite Masters offer the best service and value available in the west of Scotland and are streets ahead of the competition. Their premises in the east end of Glasgow may be less than palatial but they lack nothing in professionalism and friendly commitment to the customer. Kitchen installation is an expensive and taxing undertaking and a reliable experienced company such as Glasgow Granite Masters makes the task a little less arduous. I cannot recommend them highly enough.”

Deciding on the Best Kitchen Worktops for YOU!

The aesthetics of any bespoke kitchen relies on quality worktops. The functionality and durability of those worktops rely on choosing the best material suited to how you use your kitchen (or bathroom) and the time and cost involved in keeping your worktops pristine clean, free from burn rings, chips, cracks and distorted colour changes that can happen with certain materials susceptible to damage from UV rays, or those affected by chemical agents be it cleaning products with high alkaline content or make-up and nail varnishes in the bathroom.

The more durable the worktop quality is, the longer the guarantee will be! (That’s a quick and easy way to determine a product’s durability).

As part of our site survey service and the customer service you receive when visiting our showroom, our staff can advise on different materials, any maintenance required, the lifespan you can expect and the guarantees applicable to our product range in addition to the sinks and taps we have available and provide at cost reduction to you, making your kitchen or bathroom makeover even more budget-friendly.

The Choices of Premium Quality Worktops for Kitchens and Bathrooms

  • Granite Worktops

Granite worktops are made of natural stone, cut to slab size, polished to give the material a sheen then templated and fabricated to a custom size. Because the material is 100% natural, it’s highly durable, heat resistant and is the most suited to kitchens with large windows as it’s not as susceptible to UV damage from natural sunlight.

  • Maintaining Granite Worktops

Granite is porous and needs sealed to maintain its moisture resistance. How often it needs a granite sealer applied depends on how heavy the worktop is used and the types of products that’s generally placed on the worktop. Testing the sealant is easy as you only need a drop of water on the countertop – if it’s absorbed into the worktop, it needs a granite sealer applied. Generally, it’s advised to apply sealer annually.

Colour can degrade on granite worktops when they’re subjected to prolonged exposure of cooking fats, and deep coloured liquids such as red wines, grapefruit juices, and even the grease that can seep through takeaway pizza boxes can affect the colour so a quick wipe over soon after any spillages or grease is on the surface is recommended. As is daily cleaning using a pH neutral granite cleaner as alkaline will cause discolouration of granite surfaces.

In terms of durability, granite is the strongest material to use in kitchens where a lot of cooking and baking is done. It’s more heat resistant too so placing a hot baking tray or a casserole dish directly onto the worktop, won’t burn or change the shade of the worktop. And granite’s hard to scratch. In fact, it’ll dull your knives if you cut and chop directly on the surface before it’d scratch. (not recommended) But, if it does get damaged, it’s easier to fix and with a granite repair kit you could likely use yourself and notice no difference once it’s repaired. With engineered stone (quartz/Silestone), because of the added composites involved, it’s much harder to achieve even near-perfect repairs if any scratches do occur.

Quartz and Silestone Kitchen Worktops

Both quartz and Silestone worktops are referred to as types of composite worktops. They’re much stronger and more aesthetically pleasing than laminate kitchen worktops as the materials are made of up different quantities of quartz, colouring agents, binding agents and polymers and resins. The usual ratio for a high-quality quartz or Silestone worktop is 90% quartz and 10% of other composites materials.

The main advantage of engineered stone worktops is that it’s maintenance free. No sealing required. The downside is if it does get scratched or chipped, it’s difficult to repair.

Because quartz worktops are man-made and not completely stone, there’s a wider colour choice available, making these a popular material for worktop swaps for rejuvenating your kitchen with a worktop in a shade to match or compliment your existing kitchen, with no refurbishments needed. Another thing to note with quartz is that it’s not as heat resistant as granite, although it can still withstand temperatures up to around 240oC without scorching. Nevertheless, it’s recommended to use pot stands or trays to place hot pots/pans/baking trays to prevent any scorch marks.

Another thing of note with quartz and Silestone worktops is they can be more hygienically-friendly as the material is non-porous meaning there’s never going to be any tiny pores in your worktop surface where bacteria could survive if improperly sealed.

  • Sensa Granite

Sensa Granite is a new material made by the Consentino brand that’s still a stone worktop but with Senguard® applied, which is an enhanced stain protection treatment making them non-porous for longer. Because the materials will last longer, you get a longer guarantee. With Granite Masters, our granite worktop guarantee is 10-years, whereas there’s a 15-year guarantee of the Sensa Granite worktop range. On our Quartz range, we guarantee our Santamargaretta Quartz worktops for 10-years and 25-years for our Silestone worktops.
